The village of Mesta is located in a mountaineous region, in South-West Bulgaria, in Blagoevgrad District. It has a population of around 260 people. It is possible for the village to be reached by bus, as it is located on the road to Gotse Delchev.
History:
The village has borrowed its name from a roadside inn. Mesta’s greatest landmark is the newly-built Chirch of Saint George the Martyr. Its construction started in 1996 and lasted until 2005. The church is located in the road from Blagoevgrad to Gotse Delchev.
9 km of Mesta, the village of Obidim is located. Before it became a village, Mesta was famous as Obidimski hanove (Inns of Obidim).
Interesting facts:
This is the first village in Blagoevgrad District, and probably also in Bulgaria, that had a wireless network connection.
The rock formation Pirostiyata is located in the area. A semispherical plate, around 2 meters in diameter, is situated on top of three granite poles.
The Monastery of Saint Panteleimon is located nearby.
